VivaCell-MTS rolls out 3G network in all Armenia regions

MTS, the largest cellular network operator in Russia and CIS, has announced the full-scale roll out of UMTS/HSPA (3G) network in all regions of Armenia, one of the CIS countries. Today the third generation network is operating in 50 cities of the country.

First VivaCell-MTS 3G networks were launched in April 2009 in three major Armenian cities – Yerevan, Gyumri, and Vanadzor. The carrier is building a combined 2G/3.5G network in Armenia, using the current platforms as base stations without holdup or significant reconfiguration of GSM network.

MTS Armenian subscribers located in 3G coverage area can use a wide range of 3G mobile services, and most importantly, web access with transfer rate up to 3.6 Mb/sec, - that is several times higher than in 2G networks. Subscribers can also use all additional services, currently available in 2/2.75G network.

«Today VivaCell-MTS 3G network is covering the two third population of the country (that means 2,1 mln of 3,2 overall country population) », - says MTS VP, and director of MTS Foreign Companies unit, Oleg Raspopov.

To use 3G network subscribers must be in VivaCell-MTS 3G network coverage area, and have a 3G handset. To make a video call subscribers have to sign up for Videocall (Videozvonok) service.
