Russian Yota has more than 100 000 WiMax subscribers
Russian WiMax network operator Yota (Scartel) announced that the number of its subscribers has exceeded 100 000 active users who pay for data.
Since the commercial launch of Yota in Moscow and St.-Petersburg on 1st of June 2009, operator has registered about 60,000 new subscribers in addition to those who stayed with the carrier after testing the network in the two cities. At the end of June, Yota network was rolled out in test mode in Ufa where it will be trialed till September 30. In a month after beginning of handsets official sale, the number of subscriptions in Ufa reached 5,000 people.
Average volume of data consumed by each Yota subscriber comprised 10.3 GB in July. On average, the same data is consumed by subscribers of fixed internet providers in Moscow. However, Yota subscribers got more active in using mobile WiMax internet. While in April-May share of mobile subscribers (those using 6-10 base stations sectors) and ultramobile subscribers (using more than 10 sectors) comprised 25-30%, in July this figure grew up to 46%. As a result, percentage of fixed subscribers (those using 1-2 bas stations sectors) declined from 30% in April-May to 13% in July.
