MTS launches its 3G network in Kemerovo and Novokuznetsk

MTS, the largest cellular network operator in Russia and CIS, announced commercial launch of 3G networks in largest cities of Kuznetsk Basin – Kemerovo and Novokuznetsk.

Now when 3G networks are rolled out MTS subscribers in Kemerovo and Novokuznetsk can use mobile internet with speeds up to 3.6 MBit/s.

Subscribers who want to use 3G services should have a 3G handset, subscription to GPRS service and stay in MTS 3G network coverage area. Registration of users in 3G network is automatic and free of charge.

MTS 3G network in Siberia

During first six months of 2009, more than half of all 3G traffic in MTS networks was consumed by subscribers in Siberia region. Today Siberia has MTS 3G networks rolled out in Novosibirsk, Omsk, Irkutsk, Krasnoyarsk regions and Norilsk. On the average, in the first haРґР° of 2009 mobile internet consumption per one user in Siberia doubled. In June, share of 3G traffic in the overall MTS internet traffic in Siberia reached 60%. In the nearest future, carrier plans to launch 3G network in Barnaul.

Today MTS 3G networks operate in all federal districts of Russia: Ural, Far East, Siberia, South, North-West, Volga region, Moscow and Central district, - altogether in 37 Russian cities. In the first quarter 2009 the volume of 3G traffic in Russia grew by 3.2 times comparing with the fourth quarter 2008. Nowadays more than half of all active MTS 3G users generate at average about 1Gb data a month. The number of unique MTS 3G users in Russia is increasing twice each quarter.

Till the end of 2009 MTS is going to build new 3G networks and develop existing ones in more than 40 cities of Russia. The projected amount of funds invested by operator in 3G networks development in Russia in 2008 – 2009 will comprise about 700 million dollars.
