MTS launched 3G network in Saratov region
MTS, the largest cellular network operator in Russia and CIS, has announced the commercial launch of 3G networks in two Russian cities Saratov and Engels. MTS 3G network covers all areas of the two cities and provides data transfer speed up to 3.6 Mb per second. Subscribers who want to use data transfer service in MTS 3G network in Saratov region need to have a 3G enabled handset or they have to be signed up to MTS GPRS service and have PCMCI/USB-modem.
When a subscriber buys «MTS Connect» package (which includes USB-modem and a special data plan «MTS Connect-2»), the subscriber gets 600 Mb of web traffic for free. The free traffic is given out by 100 Mb packages each month during six months since service activation.
MTS company became the first operator that launched 3G network in Volga region. Today MTS 3G services in Volga region are available in Nizhny Novgorod, Kazan, Izhevsk, Naberezhnye Chelny, Ufa, Samara, Toliatti and Syzran. By the end of 2009, MTS plans to introduce 3G networks almost in all large cities of Volga region.
The number of unique users of 3G service in Volga region doubles each quarter, while 3G consumption volume in the region grows by three times each three months.
MTS operates 3G networks in all Russian federal regions Ural, Far East, Siberia, South, North-West, Volga region, Moscow and Central District, - altogether in 30 cities of the country.
In Q1 2009 3G traffic volume in Russia increased by 3.2 times comparing with 4Q 2008 up to 134 Terabyte. Today more than half of all active 3G users in MTS networks generate about 1Gb data per month. The number of unique user of MTS 3G services in Russia doubles each quarter.
