MTS launches 3G in Rostov-on-Don
MTS has announced commercial launch of 3G network in Rostov-on-Don on 2th of February. Since today MTS subscribers in this city in 3G coverage area can use communication «third generation» services and internet access at 3.6 Mb/sec speed. Rostov-on-Don is the administrative center of South federal district of Russia, its population exceeded 1 mln citizens in 2007.
While launch of the new communication standard network in Rostov-on-Don MTS offers a free 1Gb data bundle in 3G network. The data bundle is available for subscribers using wireless internet access solution «MTS Connect» (USB-modem for PC/notebook and special tariff).
In South Federal District MTS 3G network operated in five cities of Krasnodar region. In Sochi commercial launch of 3G network was in July 2008. Citizens of Krasnodar, Novorossiysk, Gelendzhik and Anapa can use high-end mobile services since January 22 in trial mode.
To date MTS 3G networks operate in six Russian federal districts Far East, Siberia, Ural, Volga region, North-West region and in south region, as well as in Uzbekistan.
In all the regions where MTS 3G networks operate, growth rates of mobile internet traffic consumption have increased significantly. During six months (July December 2008) MTS 3G traffic share grew by 50% in Web-traffic gross growth.
