MTS to deploy 3G-network in Armenia with Huawei

MTS announces that it has chosen Huawei Technologies as its hardware supplier for deploying MTS 3G UMTS network in Armenia. Huawei is going to provide base stations to «Vivacell-MTS» and «third generation» controllers. Commercial launch of 3G network in Armenia is scheduled for spring 2009. First 3G network segments will be deployed in Yerevan, Gjumri and Vanadzor cities.
In Armenia converged 2G/3G network will be built using existing sites for mobile masts without termination or significant reconfiguration of GSM network. UMTS subscribers will be able to use all value-added services currently available in 2/2.5G network.
