ComNews Research: Mobile VAS market in Russia reached $2.8 billion in 2007

Russian analytic firm ComNews Research published its' report about Russian mobile VAS market in 2007. Data from ComNews showed that the market reached $2.8 bln. Mobile VAS contributed 13,5% of overall cellular market revenue in Russia. During 2007 mobile internet almost caught up with content services sector and did exceeded the latter in 3Q07 demonstrating the fastest growth rate. During 2007 mobile internet users base increased 25% to 20,5 mln. users.

Key events on Russian mobile VAS market in 2007

  • RBT services growth: in summer the largest Russian mobile network operator MTS got exclusive rights for RBT from major labels, Megafon launched RBT throughout Russia.
  • Mobile advertising: at the end of 2007 all three major Russian mobile operators (MTS, Vimpelcom (Beeline trademark) and Megafon) launched mobile advertising trials.
  • WAP traffic revenue sharing: in November MTS launched partner program for WAP-portals

    Mobile VAS revenue structure in 2007 (2 793 MUSD) – SMS/MMS – 54%, mobile content – 21%, data – 20%, basic VAS – 5%.

    Mobile content market in Russia reached 592 MUSD in 2007 - 29% of revenues were collected in 4Q. The leader of mobile content market is MTS, the largest Russian operator had 41% of the market in 2007. Megafon hold its' position and got 25%, Vimpelcom's share of market decreased to 27%.
