Megafon sets up Megafon International daughter company
Megafon intends to register its 100% daughter company CJSC Megafon International, which will be engaged in foreign projects. According to the company's press service, such a decision was approved by Megafon's Board of Directors. Alexey Nichiporenko, Megafon's Deputy Director General, has been appointed Director General to Megafon International, RBC reports. "Megafon has one foreign daughter company in Tajikistan, foreign markets both in CIS and other developing countries considered as one of the possible vectors of development. Megafon's Board of Directors has held to set up an affiliated daughter company because Megafon intends to pay special attention to the given business line", - Alexey Nichiporenko, Megafon International's Director, says.
The company explains that over the last several years Megafon has been scrutinizing the market, studying the emerging proposals. In late January 2008 the company's representatives met with the Iranian government. Megafon intends to open a representation office in the given country. According to Alexey Nichiporenko, the company considers the possibility of long-term investment into the Iranian telecommunication sector. In spring Megafon plans to apply for the tender for GSM licenses in Iran, according to several media. The company's Board of Directors approved of the participating in the tender. According to experts, the license might cost $600-800 mln.
