HeroCraft game selected for Android Gaming Challenge

Alawar's Farm Frenzy, developed and published by HeroСraft has been selected for Droid Gamers Android Gaming Challenge. The first in what is hoped to be many similar events worldwide.

As well as providing a free version of Farm Frenzy specifically for the contest, HeroCraft is also sponsoring the event and providing free games as prizes for various levels of winner. The full results will be announced by the end of August.

RIA Novosti releases iPhone applications in English and French

RIA Novosti has released new iPhone apps in English and French, available for free download at the App Store.

The new apps allow iPhone, iPod touch and iPad users to browse Russian and international news, watch videos, view photos and infographics, download and email favorites.

The apps are easy to use. All content is grouped into sections, such as Politics, Economy, Culture, Sports and International News. News items are displayed as a newswire, and users can easily scroll through the headlines like through any standard iPhone list. The time and date of the latest update also are shown and users can refresh the newswire manually or set it to automatically refresh.

«RIA Novosti wants to be closer to its customers all over the world. First we released an iPhone app that allows users to access the agency’s news in Russian. Now we’re releasing versions in English and French while developing interfaces for new iPhone apps in two more languages. We are planning to expand our presence in the global media market in cooperation with the world’s leading media brands», - says Sergei Lysakov, deputy marketing director at RIA Novosti.

Russian MTS got Opera Mini special

Opera Software today announced that MTS, the largest cellular network operator in Russia and CIS, will now provide a co-branded version of the Opera Mini browser for its subscribers, who will be able to download it on their mobile phones at mini.opera.com. Subscribers of MTS will get access to a customized Opera Mini start page when they download the browser on their mobile phones.

The start page will have default bookmarks which give MTS subscribers quick and easy access to music, videos and games as well as giving users the opportunity to purchase content directly from the browser.

VimpelCom (which operates under the Beeline trademark) published the rating of content-providers for September 2009. Top-20 is based on total fee paid to companies by VimpelCom for providing services via partner programs (voice, SMS, WAP). Top 5 companies in the rating are Zed Russian (former INFON), A1, i-Free, SMS Online, and IncoreMedia. A new company RM-Invest (SMS-Dostup) appeared in the list.

Russian mobile content market is on the rebound states i-Free

i-Free, a leading provider of content services in Russia, Ukraine, Belarus and Kazakhstan, is pleased to note that the market for downloadable mobile content is showing signs of recovery. In July, mobile content sales showed impressive growth for the first time since the crisis struck, and remained high in August, while the mobile content index appeared to be steadily on the grow.

In July, i-Free analysts noted a more than 30% growth in the sales of mobile content downloaded by users from catalogues published by i-Free in the print media. Sales remained equally high through August.

Russian mobile VAS market reached 55 bln rubles ($1.681 bln) in 1H09
