MTS wins GSMA award for customer care

MTS, the largest cellular network operator in Russia and CIS, announces that it has won the GSM Association’s (“GSMA”) 15th Annual Global Mobile Award at the 2010 Mobile World Congress in Barcelona. MTS won the award in the “Best Billing & Customer Care Solution” category for its “Your Individual Optimal Tariff Plan” service. MTS is the first mobile operator from Russia and the CIS to be recognized with one of the most prestigious awards in the telecommunications industry.

MobileDirect lectures on mobile marketing in Moscow State University

Russian mobile advertising agency MobileDirect has offered master classes on mobile marketing in high schools, and recently has given the first lecture to students of political science faculty in Moscow State University.

Ten years ago special courses on «big internet» were read both to students and teachers in a trial mode. There were neither student books, nor lecture material. Today the history repeats itself with mobile internet. The significant example of the western market and stable mobile market growth in Russia let us say that marketing experts of new generation should have a good knowledge about mobile internet capabilities, so that they could use it in active products promotion on the market.

i-Free partners up with Google to help disabled kids

i-Free has joined Google in «Help Me!», a humanitarian project for Russia. The proceeds will go to children with disabilities via the CAF Russia charity.

Help Me! is a charitable initiative undertaken by Google and the Russian YouTube Symphony Orchestra in conjunction with the philanthropic fund, CAF Russia. The two other project participants, i-Free and Chrono Pay, will make it possible to donate money by mobile phone, online or by plastic card.

Plastic Media helped with mobile elections in Vladimir region

Plastic Media conducted mobile voting trial that took place at several polling stations in Raduzny, Vladimir region, during legislative assembly elections on March 1, 2009. During the trial voters sent text messages to free short number 5061, specially provided by operators for the occasion. After sending SMS users opened a special Java application for voting that was preliminary installed on their handsets.

Plastic Media offered solution, which allowed subscribers of all operators working in the region take part in the voting. More than 3 000 people took part in the trial (that is about one third of all voters in Raduzhny), and that demonstrated high potential of mobile voting.

Russians Ask Interpol to Find Former Mobile Phone Retailer

Russian prosecutors have sent a notice to Interpol seeking the arrest and extradition of Yevgeny Chichvarkin, 34 the former co-owner of Russian mobile phone retailer, Euroset. Mr Chichvarkin is understood to be in the UK at the moment, after leaving Russia in January, following allegations of kidnapping and phone smuggling.

"Today the Prosecutor General's Office of Russia has sent an instruction to Interpol on adding Yevgeny Chichvarkin to the international wanted list," said a spokeswoman for the Russian prosecutors.

Last September, police arrested four employees of the phone company, accusing them of kidnapping an employee, Andrei Vlaskin - who they suspected of stealing from the firm - and phone smuggling in a case which dated back to 2003. Chichvarkin was grilled by the General Prosecutor's Office Investigations Committee for over four hours following the arrest of the employees.
